Police in Kampala have arrested a mother for allegedly killing her three-year-old daughter in Nateete. Authorities link the incident to unresolved domestic violence, and the suspect is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard.

Police in Nateete are holding 24-year-old women for allegedly killing her three-year-old daughter, Neila Ayongeirwe, by stabbing.

The incident occurred today, February 24, 2026 at around 5am in Lusaze Zone, Rubaga Division, Kampala District, while the child’s father, Dickson Bakwatanisa, was away.

"Preliminary investigations indicate that after allegedly stabbing her daughter, the woman attempted to take her own life by cutting her neck," said Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala in a statement.

"She is currently receiving treatment in hospital under police guard."
