Police in Ntungamo District have arrested one suspect in connection with a burglary and theft case that occurred on February 20, 2026, at around 11:00 PM in Sofia Town, Mirama Town Council.

The suspect was arrested after a police sniffer dog, Yudah, tracked the scent from the crime scene to his home, approximately 700 meters away.

According to investigations, the victim, Isaac Kabagambe, a businessman operating at the Mirama border, returned home to find his house disorganized and three people inside.

He raised an alarm, prompting the suspects to flee through a hole they had dug behind the house.

Police reports indicate that officers introduced the sniffer dog to the scent bed at the scene.

“The police sniffer dog Yudah was introduced to the scent bed and successfully picked the trail from the hole behind the house,” the report states.

The trail reportedly led officers directly to Denis’s residence, where a search resulted in the recovery of a hammer and an iron bar suspected to have been used in the break-in.

Police say suspect has since confessed to his involvement in the burglary.

Another suspect, identified only as Junior, remains at large. Police say efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest him as investigations continue.
