Police in Katwe Division are holding five suspects in connection with a series of motorcycle robberies across the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) area, following what authorities described as an intelligence-led crackdown on habitual offenders.
The suspects have been identified as Bernard Ndaula, alias Twine, Sulaiman Sekatawa, Joseph Nakana, Herbert tKabugho and George Kalatungye.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala, the arrests stemmed from a case reported on February 16, 2026, by Mukasa Kenneth, who reported the theft of his motorcycle, registration number UGE 242Y (Bajaj Boxer).
“On February 16, 2026, Mukasa Kenneth reported the theft of his motorcycle, Reg. No. UGE 242Y, which had been stolen by unknown persons,” Kawala said.
Preliminary investigations established that Mukasa had entrusted the motorcycle to Ndaula Benard to operate.
However, Ndaula later returned claiming that the motorcycle had been stolen from him.
“Upon arrest, Ndaula confessed that he had conspired with his accomplices to steal the motorcycle,” Kawala stated.
Following the confession, police mounted an intelligence-led operation in Makindye I Parish, Makindye Division, within Kampala District, which resulted in the arrest of four additional suspects.
“During the operation, one suspected stolen motorcycle and a motorcycle engine were recovered,” Kawala confirmed.
Police investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly targeted victims by posing as boda boda riders.
They would reportedly lure riders or clients into dark and isolated areas before robbing them of their motorcycles.
“These suspects have been targeting victims by directing them into dark spots where they rob them of their motorcycles,” Kawala said, adding that the group is believed to have been behind multiple similar incidents within the Kampala Metropolitan area.
She further noted that investigations reveal the suspects are habitual offenders.
“Our findings show that they have previously been in and out of prison for similar offences,” Kawala said.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with police preparing the case file for court proceedings.
