A joint security operation conducted overnight in Kiboga Town Council has led to the arrest of 40 suspects as authorities intensify efforts to restore law and order following a rise in urban crime.
The intelligence-led operation, carried out by the Uganda Police Force in collaboration with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, targeted areas identified as crime hotspots where residents have recently reported incidents of simple robbery, mugging, phone snatching and drug abuse.
According to the Wamala Region Police spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi, the operation focused on blackspot locations including Kutaano, Kabakanjagala, Kiganzi and Bamusuuta, which security agencies say had become increasingly unsafe.
“The operation was intelligence-led and specifically targeted areas that had turned into criminal hideouts. Our goal is to restore sanity and improve the safety of residents,” Kigozi said.
The crackdown began at 10:00pm and ended at 4:15am, resulting in the arrest of 40 individuals. During the operation, security personnel also recovered suspected crime tools such as house-breaking equipment and narcotic substances, including opium, believed to have been used in criminal activities.
All suspects are currently detained at the Central Police Station in Kiboga, where they are undergoing screening. Police say those found with cases to answer will be charged following legal guidance from the Resident State Attorney.
Kigozi emphasized that the operation is part of ongoing security measures aimed at preventing crime and protecting communities.
“Security agencies remain committed to ensuring a crime-free environment in Kiboga. Similar operations will continue to target criminal elements and safeguard the public,” he added.
Residents have recently raised concerns over growing insecurity in the town, with authorities urging the public to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities as efforts to restore order continue.
