Two men have been charged and remanded by the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kiryandongo District over allegations of forging documents and unlawfully dealing in land belonging to the estate of a deceased woman.
The suspects, identified as David Kamukama and George Nuwagira, were on Thursday arraigned in court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working jointly with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
According to prosecutors, the duo faces multiple charges including forgery, uttering a false document, conspiracy to commit a felony and intermeddling with the estate of a deceased person.
Court heard that the accused allegedly created a fake land sale agreement dated February 15, 2002, purportedly signed by the late Joy Kabiyanja, claiming she had sold them nearly 100 acres of land located in Kamusenene Village, Kiryandongo District.
However, investigations reportedly established that Kabiyanja died in 2000 — two years before the alleged agreement was made — raising serious questions about the document’s authenticity.
Authorities further allege that the suspects knowingly presented the fraudulent agreement to officials and proceeded to sell portions of the land to unsuspecting third parties, despite being aware that the property did not legally belong to them.
Prosecution maintains that the land forms part of the estate of the late Kabiyanja and her children, who are said to hold valid letters of administration.
The accused have been remanded until February 20, 2026, as investigations continue. Authorities indicated that another suspect linked to the case remains at large.
