Police in Kyankwanzi District have launched investigations into a brutal double murder that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 14, 2026, leaving residents of Ntunda Sub-county in shock.
According to police, the District Police Commander received a morning phone call from a resident, Mulawa Ashiraf of Kizungu Cell, reporting that his neighbours had been killed during a violent night-time attack.
A team of officers, including a Scene of Crime officer, was immediately dispatched to secure and document the scene.
Confirming the incident, Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi said the attack occurred at around 2:30am, when unknown assailants raided the home of Sentongo Awali, 42, a peasant and resident of Kizungu Cell in Ntunda Sub-county.
Preliminary findings indicate that the attackers were armed with a sharp object, believed to be a panga, which they used to hack and stab their victims.
“The deceased, Sentongo Awali, sustained multiple deep cuts to the head and a stab wound to the neck, which caused his instant death,” SSP Kigozi said.
Police reported that the attackers then turned on Awali’s wife, Ayebare Doreen, stabbing her in the ribs. Despite sustaining severe injuries, she attempted to flee to alert relatives who live approximately 80 metres away.
“She tried to run for help but collapsed before reaching her relatives’ home and succumbed to the injuries,” Kigozi added.
The couple’s two young children were inside the house at the time of the attack. The eldest, aged four, survived unharmed.
The assailants fled the scene and remain unidentified. Police say the motive behind the attack has not yet been established.
Security officials have appealed for calm among residents of Ntunda Town Council, where grief and anxiety have gripped the community.
“We urge the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue,” Kigozi said.
“Anyone with information that may assist in identifying the suspects should come forward. All information will be treated with strict confidentiality.”
Police say efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects and determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
