The Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court has adjourned the hearing of six criminal charges against city businessman Kirumira Brian, popularly known as Bryan White, and four women co-accused in connection with the death of his former employee, Carol Nalubwama.
Presiding Chief Magistrate Sarah Basemerwa deferred the case to March 17 after Bryan White failed to appear in court due to ongoing health issues.
The court ordered that the four co-accused remain on remand until the next hearing.
Bryan White faces charges alongside Nalunga Daisy, described as his relative; Abaho Daphine; Nakato Naava; and Nambalirwa Joice Irene. Together, they are accused of murder, human sacrifice, manslaughter, conspiracy to commit a felony, and giving false information to security agencies regarding Nalubwama’s death.
The prosecution alleges that the accused were involved in actions leading to Nalubwama’s unlawful killing and subsequently misled investigators during the inquiry. Specific details of the alleged human sacrifice charge and the circumstances surrounding the death are expected to emerge during the full hearing.
Bryan White’s absence marks the latest development in a case that has drawn significant public attention due to his high profile and the severity of the charges.
His reported ill health has previously delayed proceedings, with the court requiring medical verification before further hearings.
Under Ugandan law, murder carries a potential death sentence upon conviction, while manslaughter and conspiracy charges also carry severe penalties.
The inclusion of a human sacrifice charge adds further gravity to the case under the Penal Code.
The four co-accused will remain in custody pending the next appearance on March 17, when the court is expected to receive an update on Bryan White’s medical condition and determine the way forward.
