Police in Kaabong District have arrested a 23-year-old man identified only as Philip for allegedly possessing an illegal firearm and causing insecurity in the area.
According to security sources, the suspect had been using the weapon to instil fear among residents, prompting an intelligence-led operation to track him down.
Karamoja Region Police spokesperson IP Mike Longole confirmed the arrest but declined to reveal the exact location where it occurred, citing operational security.
“Our team carried out an intelligence-led operation which led to the successful arrest of the suspect,” Longole said.
He added that investigations are ongoing, and that Philip will be charged once police conclude their inquiries.
Police have urged the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting individuals in possession of illegal firearms, saying such vigilance is essential to improving security in Kaabong and the wider Karamoja region.
