Security forces in Kaabong District have recovered five firearms from individuals described by authorities as notorious warriors who have been terrorizing local communities.
The weapons were surrendered voluntarily during ongoing disarmament initiatives.
Karamoja Regional Police Spokesperson, IP Mike Longole, confirmed the recoveries, describing them as a significant step toward restoring peace in the area.
“These guns were voluntarily handed over to security. We appreciate the cooperation from the community and encourage more people to surrender illegal weapons,” Longole said.
Among those who surrendered firearms is Jino Lotyang of Moruedikae Village in Kalapata Town Council, who handed in an SMG rifle numbered UE8190 with four rounds of ammunition.
Achuka Lothuwa of Nanyanagaese Village in Kalapata Town Council returned an SMG rifle numbered 16Z91 with two rounds.
Additional recoveries were recorded from Denis Lokuyon Lolem of Naporukolong Village in Losogol Parish, Logira Logwee of Kamakura Village in Naabonya Parish, and Nangiro Lochomin, also of Naporukolong Village.
All individuals who surrendered the weapons have been granted amnesty. “Those who brought the guns forward will not face prosecution. The amnesty is meant to encourage more warriors to come out without fear,” Longole explained.
The operation follows a surge in violent attacks across Kaabong District, where armed groups have been ambushing travelers, stealing valuables, shooting residents, and in some cases, kidnapping people for ransom.
Authorities emphasized that disarmament efforts will continue until the district achieves full stability, urging residents to cooperate with security forces to ensure a safer environment.
