Police Arrest Man for Impersonating Senior Officers
Police in Kampala have arrested Pius Eride Elangu for allegedly posing as senior officers and attempting to extort money from prominent businessmen using phone calls and WhatsApp messages.

Police have arrested a man accused of impersonating senior police officers, including Jinja Road Division DPC Patrick Opio, in a scheme that targeted prominent individuals in the city.

The suspect, identified as Pius Eride Elangu, allegedly used an MTN phone number 0762834001 to contact high-profile businesspeople, introducing himself as DPC Opio and other senior officers whose names have been withheld for security reasons.

Among those targeted were Vincent Wei, managing director of CHINT electronics, Lorren Nanshemeza of Lakhan Auto Centre, and David Kakonge, a businessman in the Industrial Area.

Police say the suspect demanded meetings with his victims and allegedly requested money to be sent to mobile number 0702599905.

Elangu was arrested and his phone seized for forensic analysis.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango urged anyone who may have been defrauded using the listed numbers to report to Jinja Road Police for assistance.

“If you’ve been targeted by such scams, it is crucial to report incidents promptly to the police. Always verify the credentials of individuals claiming to be officials, and remain cautious of unsolicited demands for money,” Onyango advised.
