Police in the Albertine region have impounded four vehicles allegedly used in a series of cattle thefts, raising fresh concerns about the sophistication of livestock rustlers.
Albertine Regional Police spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza said the suspects were using executive vehicles—including Toyota Land Cruisers, a Pajero, a Spacio, and a Premio—to disguise their operations and evade suspicion.
The impounded vehicles are UAX 736K (Toyota Land Cruiser TX), UA 070AX (Pajero), UAY 953L (Spacio), and UAK 917J (Premio).
Hakiza urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid assuming that high-end vehicles in rural areas belong to wealthy individuals. Instead, he advised residents to immediately alert police if they notice suspicious activity.
He further appealed to livestock owners who have reported missing animals to check with regional police offices.
“Some of these thieves are working with butchers to sell the stolen cattle. We have intensified patrols using motorcycles to ensure rapid response,” Hakiza said.
The development comes amid growing concern over rising cattle theft in western Uganda, which has left farmers counting heavy losses.
