Police in Kampala have kicked off investigations into circumstances under which an identified man was shot dead after being suspected of stealing a kettle.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson said the suspected thief was shot dead by a security guard in Kamuli Zone C, near Kireka in Wakiso district.
"The security guard suspected the man of having stolen a kettle from a residence in Kamuli zone C on March 31, 2025, at around 3:23 a.m and shot him dead," Onyango said.
According to police, the security guard has been arrested to aid in investigation while the deceased's body has been taken to Mulago Hospital for postmortem examination.
In a related incident, police have reported that an unidentified man suspected to be a phone snatcher was killed by a mob at around midnight on Sunday in Nsambya West.
He said the deceased's dead body was found in a pool of blood in Nsambya West on March 31, 2025, at around 12:30 a.m.
