Michael Waigo Otika, a senior assistant accountant with  Adjumani District Local Government had died in a motorcycle accident.

The accident, which occurred during a light rain on Tuesday evening , took place near Ruyo Guest House along the Adjumani-Gulu highway in Adjumani Town Council.

According to eyewitnesses, Otika was riding on his lane from Adjumani Town when he collided with the rear of a vehicle that had joined the highway from the wrong lane, obstructing his path.

Police and family are  yet to release an official statement, as the accident happened late in the evening.

The body has been taken to Adjuman general hospital mortuary.

Adjumani District Local Government confirmed Waigo’s passing on its official Facebook page:

" The Chief Administrative Officer announces the untimely death of Mr. Waigo Michael Otika, an accountant. More details about burial arrangements will be shared in due process. May his soul rest in eternal peace."

After news of his passing, many friends and colleagues took to social media to express their condolences.

Christopher Irama, an Assistant Commissioner in the Ministry of Local Government, wrote, "Cherished memories of your life, Michael. Recruited in the same cohort, we started work together on May 31, 2001, and we have been close ever since. Thoughts are with the bereaved family. RIP."

Meanwhile, Richard Izakare, a social worker in South Sudan, commented, "True. Stakeholders, especially district authorities, UNRA, Strabag, and the traffic police, should come together to find a lasting solution. We have lost many prominent people, starting from the late Loka Festo and others; this shouldn't continue. May the departed rest in peace."

At least 26 people have died, and 71 others have sustained serious injuries in road accidents in Adjumani District over the past eight months, according to police reports. These accidents are attributed to factors such as reckless driving, speeding, drunk driving, and a general disregard for road signs.
