Joint Police, army swoop targeting Kampala spots nets 20

Police have said a joint operation they carried out with the UPDF and the local community vigilantes in several areas of Kampala has netted over 20 suspects.

According to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the Tuesday operation targeted several black spots in Kinawataka, Mbuya, Katoogo, Kaggo, Centre, and Kalerwe zones known for habouring criminals .

“The operation resulted in the apprehension of 20  male adults suspected of engaging in illicit activities. Marijuana and other dangerous items, including housebreaking tools, knives, and pangas, were seized from various black spots,” Onyango said.

He noted that the suspects  who are currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station are soon being arraigned in courts of law.

“The success of this joint operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led initiatives in disrupting criminal activity. Police pledge to continue conducting such operations to ensure public safety and security.”

Police recently said they have started intelligence -led operations in several parts of the city as the country nears the festive season.

Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke said on Monday that while members of the public go about their business during the festive season, criminals use this opportunity to pounce on them.

He urged vigilance but noted operations will continue in various parts of the country to nip the wrong elements in the bud.
