New Busoga East RPC vows to end animal theft 

The new Regional Police Commander (RPC) for the Busoga East region, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Norman Musinga, has pledged to combat animal theft in the area with determination and vigor.

ACP Musinga, recently assigned to the region, expressed confidence in his ability to tackle this growing problem, drawing on his extensive experience in dealing with similar crimes.

Speaking at a security meeting in Namundudi village, Nakalama Sub County, Iganga District, ACP Musinga outlined his strategy to curb the escalating incidents of animal theft and other crimes in the region.

The meeting was organized by the LC3 Chairperson for Nakalama Sub County, Kawanguzi Hamidu Ssalongo, who had invited the security team after local authorities struggled to manage the surge in thefts and other criminal activities.

ACP Musinga called on the community to cooperate with the police and identify individuals involved in criminal acts.

He promised significant improvements in just one month. "

Get a pen, hide somewhere, and write down the names of those involved in stealing goats and cows. You know them because they live among you. I want to make Nakalama a model Sub County," he assured.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Iganga District, Hajji Wandera Sadala, emphasized the joint efforts made by security teams to eliminate animal theft by denying police bonds or court bail to anyone charged with such crimes.

"Ever since I came to Iganga, we have worked closely to reduce animal theft cases, but unfortunately, these incidents are rising again. However, I trust our new RPC, and together we shall deliver," said RDC Wandera.

The meeting also included the District Police Commander (DPC) for Iganga, SSP Byaruhanga Patrick, who criticized some LC1 leaders for shielding thieves in their communities in an attempt to resolve matters without involving the police.

Byaruhanga urged parents to focus on educating their children as a preventive measure against future crimes.

Kawanguzi Hamidu, Chairperson of Nakalama Sub County, revealed that over 40 cows had been stolen in just three months, with an even higher number of goats disappearing.

He noted that many locals had lost hope in reporting animal theft cases to the police, but expressed optimism that the new measures would help restore trust and bring the culprits to justice.

With community support and concerted efforts from the police, Busoga East is hopeful for a significant reduction in animal theft and improved security in the coming months.
