Sam Odongo, 28, a resident of Ngai Sub-county in Oyam District, allegedly returned home drunk and proceeded to have both natural and unnatural sex with his wife

OYAM | Police in Oyam District are hunting for a man suspected of sodomising and causing the death of his wife.

Sam Odongo, 28, a resident of Ngai Sub-county in Oyam District, allegedly committed the offence at their residence at Omac Parish in the wee hours of August 8, 2024, causing severe injuries on the victim, Sarah Angom.

The LC3 chairperson for Ngai Sub-county, Jimmy Anywar, said the victim reported that the suspect returned from a drinking joint late night and started having sexual intercourse with her, naturally, before committing the unnatural act.

“The suspect is about 28 years old and the victim is also in her early 20s. Sarah was found tied with a rope, with severe injuries and that is when she was picked and taken to police, the husband, Odongo was eventually arrested and detained at Ngai Police Post,” Anywar told the Nile Post.

However, Odongo was released on police bond, after the family agreed he should be allowed to treat the wife.

“The victim was taken to Ngai Health Centre III where the husband dumped her and disappeared," Anywar said.

"The relatives were then referred to Aboke Health Centre IV in Kole District after the family was informed of severe complications the victim had suffered."

The victim was then referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital, but the family failed to raise money to transport her to Kampala.

North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema said medical documents availed to police indicate the victim had complications on the uterus and the anus, and had since been nursing her injuries from home.

“It seems they failed to get the money and the woman was instead taken back home where she died on August 29. It was a very tricky case for us to understand," Okema said.

"The District CID learnt of the case on Monday and yet this is an incident that happened on the eighth of last month,” says Okema.

Okema said a post-mortem was conducted and the report indicates that the virginal part and the anus of the deceased was raptured, a suggestion that the man could have involved the use of other objects

"The file has already reached the office of the district CID, and the matter has been taken up,” he added.
