A section of residents living in Pacilo East village, Pacilo Parish in Atiak sub-county in Amuru district whose grass thatched houses were recently burnt over land dispute  have raised concern.

The victims have asked police  to expedite investigations and bring culprits to book.

The land in contention measures close to 2,000 acres, according to the aggrieved residents.

On June, 17 , 2024, at least 29 houses belonging to 12 households  were   reduced to ashes by yet to be identified attackers, while household properties worth millions of shillings were equally destroyed.

Preliminary police reports revealed that the runaway suspects allegedly raided unspecified numbers of cattle and owners of the displaced households taken safe haven at the homes of their close relatives and friends.

One of the affected residents whose properties were destroyed by the night attackers is 70-year-old James Ochaya, who requested for justice.

"The land in contention belongs to my late father, but few people now forcefully want to displace us because of their selfish interest and their endless desire to sell land," Ochaya said.

He urged the Police  to ensure all the suspects who participated in causing the untold misery to the affected households are arrested.

David Ongom  Mudong, the police spokesperson for   Aswa West disclosed that the police task force of Field Force Unit (FFU) from Elegu responded to the scene to restore calm and no suspects were arrested since it was already night as  the suspects had fled from cene.

"The motive of the attackers has been allegedly linked to a long term land wrangles between the Pacilo clan and the grand children of the late Ochaya Kaciyano since 2018 as the same matter has been court going," Mudong said.

He said police had already started  inquiries into the incident to have all the suspects arrested.
