The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working jointly with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, has arraigned Lutwaama Isaac Magandaazi before the Mityana Chief Magistrates Court on charges of obtaining money by false pretence.

Prosecution alleges that between March and August 2020, in Zigoti Town Council, Lutwaama fraudulently obtained shs 37 million from Bbaale Francis by falsely claiming he wa selling land located at Block 24, Plot 53—property he did not own.

According to Natasha Mariam the spokesperson for Anti-Corruption Unit, the suspect reportedly convinced the complainant that he had authority over the land and promised to process ownership, including clearing the existing kibanja holder and facilitating the issuance of a land title. However, he allegedly failed to fulfill these obligations and later became unreachable.

The case was reported to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, which led to Lutwaama’s arrest. Authorities say the suspect admitted to receiving the money from the complainant.

“We have evidence that the suspect obtained money under false pretence, and investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the fraud,” said Natasha Mariam.

Preliminary findings indicate that Lutwaama may be linked to several similar fraud cases in both Mityana District and Wakiso District.

Authorities have now called upon members of the public who may have fallen victim to similar schemes involving the suspect to come forward and record statements.

“We urge anyone who may have been defrauded or had their land unlawfully taken by the suspect to report to the nearest authorities,” Natasha added.

The case highlights ongoing concerns over land-related fraud in Uganda, with officials warning the public to exercise caution and verify ownership documents before engaging in land transactions. The accused has been remanded until April 9, 2026, as investigations into the matter continue.
