The High Court in Wakiso recently conducted an on-site session at a five-acre piece of land in Sseguku Katale following allegations that a court order halting all activities on the property had been ignored.
Presiding Judge Flavia Grace Lamuno personally visited the contested land, where Pastor Jeremiah Ssebakijje of World Answers Church International is embroiled in a legal battle with the children of the late Christopher Kaweesa over ownership and control.
Earlier, the court had issued an interim order prohibiting any construction or development on the property. However, reports indicated that respondents resumed erecting structures shortly afterward, prompting the judge’s site inspection.
“If a court issues an order, it must be respected. No one is above the law,” Judge Lamuno cautioned, according to lawyers present at the scene.
Pastor Ssebakijje and his church allege that Robert Kissa, Joseph Lukyamuzi, Noah Kiyimba, Dan Kasumba, Davis Sseremba, Shadia Namayanja, and Samuel Lule defied the court directive by continuing construction and opening access roads on the land.
The session was held under tight security, with church members gathering before the court’s arrival to hold prayers. “We believe God will fight for us because we have been oppressed for too long,” one member said.
Pastor Ssebakijje expressed frustration over persistent violations of the court order. “The court stopped all activities in 2024, but these people continued building as if nothing had happened. Whenever we went to report to enforcement offices, we were turned away,” he said.
During the session, Judge Lamuno and the lawyers questioned Lukyamuzi, Kissa, and Local Council Chairperson Lule regarding the construction despite the standing court directive. Following the proceedings, the judge led both parties on a guided tour of the disputed land, accompanied by police officers and congregants from World Answers Church International.
According to the church’s lawyer, the court has directed both parties to return on Monday, December 1, 2025, to agree on the next steps in resolving the matter.
