The four Police Flying Squad officers accused of aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony have been further remanded to Luzira Prison after their scheduled court appearance was pushed to July, 25.
The jailed officers are; Detective Superintendent of Police (D/SP) James Besigye, 38, Detective Corporal (D/CPL) Simon Owona, 36, Detective Constable (D/C) Pracid Abdul Mulangira, 33, and Detective Constable (D/C) Monday Tibaijuka, 35.
They had returned to Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court to check on the progress of police inquiries but had to be informed that the trial magistrate Frank Namanya, was away from his station .
They have been further remanded to Luzira prison by Grade One Magistrate Andrew Katurubuki.
Prosecution, led by Mahatima Odongo also informed the court that investigations are still on-going.
During the -previous court session on July 11, Magistrate Namanya rebuked the officers for attempting to hide their identities in hooded jumpers and ordered them to show their faces .
According to the charge sheet, the four officers, along with others still at large, allegedly robbed Mr John Vian Tumukunde on May 9, 2025, at Solent Avenue in Nakawa Division, Kampala.
The stolen property included one kilogram of gold valued at USD 105,000 and USD 1,000 in cash.
Prosecutors say the suspects were armed with a pistol and AK-47 rifles during the heist.
