The National Unity Platform (NUP) flagbearer for Kawempe South, Fred Nyanzi, has appealed to the Electoral Commission to ensure that all candidates and their supporters conduct peaceful and fair campaigns as the election season gains momentum.
Speaking during his door-to-door campaign launch in Makerere Parish, Nyanzi said that maintaining a peaceful environment was crucial for democracy and equal participation.
“We want to ensure that this campaign period is peaceful and fair for everyone,” he said.
“The Electoral Commission should work closely with security agencies so that all candidates, including those from the opposition, can campaign without interference.”
Nyanzi noted with concern that the local police in his area were unaware of his campaign schedule, leading to what he described as “unnecessary disruptions.”
He urged better coordination between security officials and campaign teams to avoid similar misunderstandings during the campaign period.
Residents in several areas of Makerere Parish warmly welcomed Nyanzi, some chanting his name and pledging support for his candidacy.
His door-to-door engagements focused on listening to community concerns and sharing his vision for Kawempe South’s development.
Campaign activities in Kawempe have gained momentum, with several candidates adopting direct voter engagement strategies, including home visits and small community meetings, to strengthen their connection with residents ahead of the polls.
