First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga has reaffirmed the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government’s commitment to the development of Busoga, saying government programs have been realigned to directly benefit the region.
Speaking to the media during a press conference in Jinja, Kadaga emphasized that the NRM deserves to be re-elected because it remains focused on programs aimed at addressing key community challenges affecting the Basoga.
She noted that the government’s priorities are centered on practical solutions that improve livelihoods and promote sustainable development.
Kadaga identified unemployment as one of the major challenges facing the region, explaining that the government plans to tackle it through the establishment of industrial parks. She revealed that the strategy has already been discussed and agreed upon at the highest level, including consultations with President Yoweri Museveni.
According to Kadaga, land in Busoga has already been secured to host an industrial park, which she said will create jobs and stimulate economic activity in the sub-region.
“My work now is to secure land because we discussed with the President the establishment of industrial hubs in different parts of the country to attract investors to set up factories that will employ our people and generate income,” Kadaga said.
She further assured the people of Busoga that there are plans to push for the establishment of a dedicated Busoga Ministry. The proposed ministry would focus on addressing the region’s unique challenges and coordinating development programs tailored to the needs of the local population.
Kadaga also dismissed claims that the current government has done little for Busoga, citing several completed and ongoing projects. These include the construction of major roads such as the Musita–Lumino–Busia road, the provision of ferries, and other infrastructure projects still in the pipeline.
She said these developments clearly demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, service delivery, and overall socio-economic transformation in the Busoga sub-region.
