Museveni Meets MTN Uganda Executives, Emphasises Telecoms’ Role in National Transformation

President Museveni has met the leadership of MTN Uganda at State House Entebbe to discuss the role of telecommunications and financial technology in advancing Uganda’s socio-economic development.

The delegation was led by MTN Uganda Board Chairman Charles Mbire and included Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge and General Manager Corporate Services Enid Edroma.

According to a statement released after the meeting, discussions centred on the strategic importance of the telecommunications sector in driving innovation, strengthening service delivery, and supporting Uganda’s long-term transformation agenda.

Particular emphasis was placed on the growing role of digital connectivity and fintech platforms in expanding access to financial services, improving efficiency in public service delivery, and enabling broader economic participation, especially at the grassroots level.

President Museveni commended MTN Uganda for its continued investment in the country, noting that telecommunications infrastructure and digital financial services are key enablers of national development.

He expressed satisfaction with the utilisation of telecom and fintech systems in supporting socio-economic progress and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to policies that promote digital inclusion, innovation, and nationwide connectivity.

On their part, the MTN Uganda executives applauded the government for fostering an enabling investment climate that has allowed the telecommunications sector to grow and attract sustained private sector investment.
