Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) enforcement team has intensified efforts to combat economic sabotage, intercepting suspected smuggled goods and vehicles in Kikagati, Isingiro District.

In a recent operation, URA officers recovered two Bajaj Boxer motorcycles, registration numbers UFN 892J and UGF 406E, along with one bale of fabric and another containing zippers.

The seizure follows a similar interception carried out a week earlier along the Kikagati–Isingiro road in Kakuuto, where officers impounded one bale of fabric, a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (registration UEX 226L), and six boxes of assorted cosmetics.

Elvis Kairanga, the URA supervisor for the South Western region, commended whistleblowers for their critical role in supporting enforcement operations.

“We applaud whistleblowers for their cooperation and call upon business owners to comply with tax laws, as smuggling hurts the economy,” Kairanga said.

In one of the incidents, suspects abandoned the goods and fled into a nearby bush, underscoring the challenges URA faces in curbing smuggling activities along border routes.

Kairanga emphasized the need for voluntary compliance, urging traders and business owners to adhere to tax laws and regulations.
