Vivo Energy Uganda has unveiled the new Shell Mawanda Road station in Kampala, raising its nationwide network to 195 service stations. It becomes the fourth Shell outlet commissioned this year and the first to feature a solar-powered canopy, underscoring the company’s growing commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
The new station incorporates Shell’s refreshed visual identity aimed at improving navigation, comfort, and overall customer experience. It also offers added convenience through KFC, Java House, and an upcoming Auto Express service centre.
Vivo Energy Uganda Managing Director Joanita Menya Mukasa said the launch marks a significant step in the company’s effort to modernize service and expand access to cleaner energy.
“We are privileged to open Mawanda Road Station as our latest station,” she said, highlighting the importance of the solar canopy, which is capable of powering pumps, the shop, and station offices for up to six hours daily.
She said the innovation will support cleaner operations and reduce dependence on the national electricity grid.
Menya also commended the teams and partners whose efforts made the project possible, reaffirming Vivo Energy’s commitment to expanding access and enhancing customer experience.
Shell’s Senior Vice President for Global Marketing and Licensed Markets, Carol Chen, praised Vivo Energy Uganda for its continued expansion and delivery of high-quality services.
“I was very excited to see how the team continues to expand the offer of high quality fuel, lubricants, and gas,” she said, noting that the addition of strong food and beverage brands further elevates customer value.
She described the milestone of reaching 195 stations as significant and congratulated all involved.
Vivo Energy Group Executive Vice President for East Africa, Hans Paulsen, thanked the government for enabling private-sector growth.
“Shell Mawanda Road brings us to 195 stations… We hope to close at about 200 stations by the end of the year,” he said.
Paulsen emphasized that the company’s mission is to improve both mobility and customer experience, noting that true success now rests on delivering consistent, high-quality service.
The launch was attended by senior leaders from Vivo Energy Group and Shell Brands International, including Arnaud Guichard, Anne Gitao, Kerim Kermen, Flavia Ribeiro, and Pritish Saha.
The new station is expected to serve thousands of motorists daily, bringing together modern amenities, sustainability features, and enhanced safety standards, further reinforcing Vivo Energy Uganda’s commitment to reliable fuels, trusted lubricants, and improved customer service nationwide.
