ICPAU Urges Accountants to Lead Ethical and Sustainable Growth in Uganda

Professional accountants in Uganda have been called upon to champion ethical standards, strengthen accountability, and drive sustainable operations across both public and private sectors.

The call came during the launch of the roadmap for adopting the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, held by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations. The event underscores Uganda’s commitment to aligning with global best practices in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting.

ICPAU President Timothy David Ediomu highlighted the resilience of Uganda’s economy, driven by investments in infrastructure, oil and gas, and agriculture. He emphasized that accountants must adopt innovative solutions, noting that ESG reporting is “not just a trend but a necessity.”

She urged accountants to explore business opportunities, create jobs, and transform Uganda’s commercial and financial landscape.

Addressing participants, Dr. Peter Kimbowa highlighted the importance of collaboration, digital transformation, and diversity in leadership, encouraging accountants to embrace responsibility and shape the future of their professions and organizations.

The event positioned accountants as key drivers of ethical governance and sustainable growth, reinforcing their role as pivotal contributors to Uganda’s development trajectory.
