A330neo Secures 10 Orders in January as Airbus Eyes Strong Start to 2025
Airbus began 2025 with a solid performance, securing 55 gross orders across its aircraft families with 25 deliveries in January.
Among the key performers was the A330neo, which added 10 new orders to its tally, continuing a trend of steady demand for the widebody aircraft.
The A330neo’s success builds on a strong 2024, where it captured 82 orders, bringing its total firm orders to 384.
The A330neo, a twin-aisle aircraft capable of carrying between 260 to 310 passengers, is positioned as an efficient and versatile solution for mid- to long-haul routes.
Airlines have been increasingly attracted to the A330neo’s lower operating costs, reduced fuel consumption, and improved passenger comfort.
However, the strong demand for the A330neo is part of a broader picture at Airbus, where orders were spread across its different families.
The A320neo series led the charge with 26 orders, highlighting ongoing interest in narrowbody aircraft.
Meanwhile, the A350, another widebody model, secured 19 orders, underscoring its continued appeal for long-haul operations.
Despite the positive sales figures, Airbus faces challenges in meeting its production goals. The company fell short of its 2024 delivery target of 787 aircraft, handing over 766, partially due to ongoing supply chain constraints.
Christian Scherer, CEO Commercial Aircraft at Airbus said 2024 confirmed sustained demand for new aircraft, stressing that the jet maker had not failed to meet its target but fell within the margin of error.
"We won key customer decisions with most important customers and saw phenomenal momentum for our widebody orderbook, complementing our leading position in the single aisle market," he said.
"On deliveries, we kept our trajectory and celebrated several landmark firsts. These include the first ever A321XLR as well as first A330neo and A350 deliveries to several customers globally.”
While the A320-family jets are at the heart of Airbus’ production, the A330neo’s steady performance provides a critical revenue stream as the manufacturer works to ramp up output in the coming months.
The A330neo's performance is important not only for Airbus' balance sheet but also as a reflection of the market's evolving needs.
Airlines are increasingly seeking fuel-efficient, flexible aircraft to meet fluctuating demand in the post-pandemic travel environment, making the A330neo a competitive option for long-haul carriers.
