Ugandans shared moving stories and images of community champions, showcasing their dedication to improving lives.

Kampala - In celebration of Service Month, Ecobank Uganda launched the #EcobankUGExtramile Challenge to recognize and honour outstanding individuals and organizations making a difference in their communities.

The initiative encouraged Ugandans nationwide to nominate and vote for inspiring local heroes who are committed to positively impacting lives through selfless service.

The challenge received a remarkable response, reaching over one million people online and receiving more than 500 nominations.

All entries underwent a thorough vetting process to ensure authenticity, integrity, and impact within their communities.

Ecobank Uganda proudly announced the winners of the #EcobankUGExtramile Challenge, each rewarded with a cash prize of Shs2 million.

These winners are organisations committed to social transformation and betterment:

  1. Karoth Kids Foundation – This grassroots initiative works to improve the welfare of vulnerable children, providing essential supplies, educational materials, and emotional support to empower the next generation.
  2. Bafrika Creations – A social enterprise using art and creativity to address social issues, Bafrika Creations organizes community workshops, advocates for sustainable practices, and provides a platform for local artists to make a difference.
  3. Eco-Warriors Uganda – Focused on promoting sustainable, eco-friendly practices, Eco-Warriors Uganda supplies safe menstrual products to girls in need, raising awareness about environmentally conscious choices in local communities.

Mercy Masika, founder of Karoth Kids Foundation, expressed gratitude, saying, “Receiving this support from Ecobank Uganda is such a tremendous boost for us. This prize will enable us to reach even more vulnerable children with the supplies and care they desperately need, including school fees.”

Ecobank Uganda, a subsidiary of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), is part of Ecobank Group, headquartered in Lomé, Togo, and operating in 33 countries across Africa, as well as representative offices in Addis Ababa, Johannesburg, and international offices in Beijing, London, and Dubai.

Ecobank has been operating in Uganda since 2019.

Tony Okello from Bafrika Creations echoed this sentiment, “We are incredibly grateful to Ecobank Uganda for this recognition. It fuels our drive to continue using art to address important social issues and uplift our community.”

Eco-Warriors Uganda also shared heartfelt gratitude: “This award is more than just money—it’s a symbol of the change we can achieve together. Ecobank Uganda has given us a platform to spread awareness about eco-friendly menstrual products, and it’s empowering to know that we’re not alone in this journey.”

Ecobank Uganda’s Managing Director, Ms Grace Muliisa, praised the winners, stating, “We are immensely proud to celebrate the selfless work of these remarkable individuals and organizations.

"Their efforts embody the spirit of Service Month, showing how much one person or group can do to uplift and support their communities. Through initiatives like the #EcobankUGExtramile Challenge, we are honored to amplify their stories and inspire others to do the same.”
