Beneficiaries of Nakasero IV Ward Tailors Emyooga Sacco say the fund has emerged as a beacon of hope, rescuing them from the grip of high-interest moneylenders.

These urge that the programme has gradually transformed their lives and fostered economic resilience as Sacco grows to 97 members with Shs78.8 cumulative savings.

Cooper Complex in Nakasero is a busy commercial hub where most tailors ply their trade from. In it lies the Nakasero IV Ward Tailors Emyooga Sacco.

Zaituni Nansubuga, a member of the Sacco, says before Emyooga she was operating a small mobile money kiosk.

"I was working on mobile money, but when Emyooga came, I got money and started a clothing shop which has a variety of clothes. I have also been been to buy two pieces of land that is half an acre," Nansubuga said.

Rehema Namuddu, the chairperson of the Sacco, says the seed capital of Emyooga has enabled them to create employment and help women and youths cut the dependency syndrome.

"We had many people depending on their fellows and now people have jobs, they work here and help their families," Namuddu said.

Pascal Niyonkuru, a tailor and Sacco member, recalls the unpleasant situation he went through with money lenders.

"Moneylenders used to give us loans at a high interest rate which didn't help our businesses, I had one sewing machine but because of Emyooga, I now have six machines some of which I rent out," Niyonkuru noted.

The Nakasero iv ward Emyooga Sacco has cumulative savings of Shs78.8 million, net savings of 23M, cumulative loan of 100M, net loan 41.2M, and member shares of Shs920000.
