Iteso Cultural Union to host tourism symposium
The Iteso Cultural Union is gearing up to host a tourism symposium aimed at unveiling the hidden treasures in Teso sub-region.
Scheduled for July 19-20, the symposium is expected to bring together stakeholders in the tourism industry to explore the vast potential of the region.
According to the Iteso deputy minister for tourism and documentation, Joseph Ojaatum, the event is designed to showcase the unique cultural heritage, natural attractions, and historical sites, possible game reserves that Teso has to offer.
"Iteso Cultural Union hopes to attract tourists and investors to the region, thereby boosting the local economy and promoting sustainable development," Ojaatum said.
Teso, located in eastern Uganda, is a region steeped in history and culture. The area is home to the Iteso people, a community known for their warm hospitality and rich cultural traditions.
The region is also blessed with breathtaking natural beauty of paintings, including birds local traditional foods, and the sprawling Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve.
Despite its vast potential, Teso remains one of the least explored regions in Uganda. The ICU hopes to change this narrative by promoting tourism in the area.
The two-day symposium will feature presentations, exhibitions, and cultural performances that showcase the best of Teso.
Some of the topics to be discussed at the symposium include:

- Natural attractions and their potential for eco-tourism
- Historical sites and their significance in promoting cultural tourism
- Investment opportunities in the tourism sector
- Challenges and solutions in developing tourism in Teso
Iteso Cultural Union has invited stakeholders from the public and private sectors, including government officials, tourism operators, investors, and cultural experts.
