Tororo Municipality MP Apollo Yeri joins pilgrims to Namugongo

More than 100 foot pilgrims from Sacred Heart Deanery in Tororo district have been flagged off to Uganda Martyrs shrine, Namugogo to celebrate the Martyrs day.

The team of pilgrims who are from the parishes of Agururu, Nyangole and Sacred Heart, set off on Monday  at around 8am after being flagged off by one of the priests working in the Deanery, Fr. Aloysius Opio Opio.

The team that compromises of mainly adults pilgrims are trekking a distance of about 220 kms and expected to reach their final destination within five days, according to the organizers.

" Their first stop over will be at Bugiri, then proceed to Iganga, Jinja, Mukono and finally kampala. This is will take them five days" Fr. Aloysius Opio Opio, said

The excited believers were also joined by Tororo Municipality Member of Parliament, Apollo Yeri Ofwono who revealed that his trekking is just to say thank you to the Almighty for the gift of life.

" I recently underwent serious operation outside the country but God managed to heal me. Whom am i not to say thank you to the Lord," Yeri revealed.

For the safety of the pilgrims during their journey, police has not to left anything to chance. Traffic police have been deployed to guide and guard believers until their final destination.

" We have done it because many incidences can happen on the way. They may encounter robberies or road accidents," Elly Kaigwa, Tororo acting District Police Commander.

Meanwhile, the few Christians who are making this journey of faith whom we talked too are very hopeful that their journey won't be put to waste.

Tororo Archdiocese with forty nine parishes usually sends between one thousand five hundred to two thousand pilgrims to Namugongo every year.
