Uganda's Stanbic Black Pirates put up a spirited performance but ultimately fell short against Kenya's Kabras RFC in the 2026 Enterprise Cup final played at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.

The highly anticipated East African rugby showdown lived up to expectations, with both sides producing an entertaining contest before a passionate crowd.

Kabras RFC made a strong start, crossing for the opening try in the fifth minute to take an early lead. The Pirates responded in the 17th minute with a well-worked try of their own, narrowing the deficit to 7-5 and signaling their determination to compete.

The Kenyan champions, however, maintained control of the game and added two more tries before halftime. Although both conversion attempts were unsuccessful, Kabras carried a 15-7 lead into the break.

The second half began with renewed intensity as both teams battled for supremacy. Kabras continued to dictate proceedings, scoring two quick tries within the opening 18 minutes to extend their advantage to 25-7.

In search of a comeback, the Pirates coaching staff introduced Haruna Muhammad from the bench. The substitute made an immediate impact, bringing energy and pace to the attack.

His influence helped create the opportunity for Allan Karuhanga to cross the try line, reducing the deficit to 25-12 and briefly reigniting hopes of a Pirates comeback.

Despite their relentless effort and determination until the final whistle, the Ugandan side was unable to breach the Kabras defense again as the hosts held firm to secure victory and lift the 2026 Enterprise Cup title.

Speaking after the match, Stanbic Black Pirates Head Coach Marvin Odongo praised his players for their resilience and fighting spirit.

"We faced a quality side today, but I am proud of the character our players showed. They never stopped competing and continued to fight until the very end. There are lessons to take from this match, and we will use them as motivation going forward," Odongo said.

Despite the defeat, the Pirates leave Nairobi with valuable experience gained against one of East Africa's top rugby clubs. Their appearance in the final was itself historic, making them the first Ugandan club in more than 50 years to reach and compete in the Enterprise Cup final.

Pirates star Timothy Kisiga said the team's focus now shifts back to domestic competition, where they remain firmly in contention for silverware.

The Stanbic Black Pirates have already secured a place in the 2026 Uganda Rugby Premiership semifinals and will now prepare for a crucial encounter against Heathens Rugby Club as they continue their pursuit of the national title.
