Newcomers St Mark High School have been crowned champions of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association Mukono Zone after defeating Mehta High School–Lugazi 1-0 in a rain-soaked final.
The closely contested encounter was decided by a solitary goal, as St Mark capped off a remarkable debut campaign with a historic triumph.
Their journey to the title was equally impressive, having edged out former champions Seroma Christian High School 1-0 in the semifinal.
Mehta High School, who finished as runners-up, had earlier battled past Quality High School in a dramatic semifinal clash.
The match ended goalless in normal time before Mehta prevailed 5-4 in a penalty shootout.
St Mark’s resilience and defensive discipline stood out throughout the tournament, conceding very little and grinding out crucial results against more experienced sides.
Both finalists, together with Seroma Christian High School, who finished third, will represent the Mukono Zone at the national secondary school games slated for May 10, 2026, in Lira.
Earlier, Seroma Christian High School defeated Quality High School to secure third place in the competition.
Despite falling short in the final, Mehta High School—the Buikwe District champions—demonstrated resilience throughout the tournament.
They had earlier defeated St Mark 1-0 in the opening match of the preliminary round, going on to top their group with maximum points.
Meanwhile, Mukono Kings Secondary School were crowned the 2026 Mukono Zonal League champions after edging Latifah Mixed Secondary School 1-0 in the final.
Mukono Kings Secondary School, Latifah Mixed Secondary School, and Hopeful Future Secondary School will represent the zone at the national championships in Lira.
