Uganda Premier League side Bul have reappointed Alex Isabirye as team manager on a two-year renewable contract, tasking the experienced tactician with rescuing the club’s faltering Uganda Premier League campaign.
The Jinja-based side confirmed that Isabirye assumes his duties with immediate effect, replacing Abbey Kikomeko Bogere, who was sacked last week following a disastrous start to the season.
Kikomeko, who had replaced Isabirye in 2023, paid the price for a poor run of results that saw Bul lose five consecutive league matches, leaving the Eastern Giants languishing in 12th position on the UPL table with 10 points from 11 games.
In a statement, the club said Isabirye’s immediate mandate is to “salvage some positives” from the ongoing league campaign as Bul look to stabilise their season and climb away from the lower end of the table.
Isabirye is no stranger to Bul, having previously served the club in two spells. His first stint came between 2015 and 2016, before he returned in April 2021 to oversee the final nine matches of the 2020/21 season.
Four months later, he was handed a new two-year contract.
During that period, Isabirye guided Bul to the Uganda Cup title, securing the club’s first-ever qualification to the CAF Confederation Cup.
His success in Jinja earned him a move to Vipers SC in March 2023, where he went on to win a league and Uganda Cup double in the same season.
Beyond BUL, Isabirye boasts an extensive coaching résumé. He is a former Uganda Cup winner with SC Victoria University and a league champion with URA.
He has also coached Nyamityobora, Kyetume, Busoga United, Tooro United and Express FC, as well as Somalia Premier League side Horseed and the Buganda Province team in the FUFA Drum tournament.
Bul said the rest of Isabirye’s technical backroom staff will be confirmed and announced in due course.
His first test back in charge will come on January 7, 2026, when Bul face Calvary, a fixture that could set the tone for the club’s bid to arrest their slide and revive their season.
