Soroti councillors in fist fight over graft accusations
Drama ensued in Soroti district council chambers on Tuesday as councillors engaged in a fist fight over accusations of financial management.
The confrontation, which halted council operations for eight hours, centered around the alleged misuse of shs1 billion meant for the construction of the new district administration block.

The drama unfolded when a group of councilors locked the office of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Aggrey Muramira, accusing him of absenteeism and failing to implement council resolutions.
Bob Owiny, representing Tubur Sub-county, led the charge, accusing the district’s finance secretary, Samuel Eyangu, of conspiring with the CAO to mismanage the funds.
In a heated response, Eyangu physically attacked Owiny, accusing him of undermining the progress of the new district headquarters in Katine Sub-county.
The altercation had to be broken up by the district NRM mobilizer, Teddy Acham, and police officers present at the scene.
Amid the chaos, councilors expressed frustration with the district’s leadership, accusing them of treating the district like a personal enterprise.
Meanwhile, the district chairperson, Simon Peter Edoru Ekuu, denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the situation was being manipulated to make the executive look corrupt, despite their efforts to relocate the district headquarters.
