Soroti is in mourning following the tragic loss of three young children who suffocated in a locked vehicle while their family attended a burial in Arapai.

The children entered the parked car unnoticed during the ceremony, and their unresponsive bodies were discovered upon the family’s return.

Damali Nancha, Regional Police Commander (RPC) for East Kyoga, confirmed the incident, extending her condolences to the grieving family.

Nancha shared that the children were immediately taken to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital after being found, but medical staff were unable to revive them.

In her statement, Nancha urged families and caregivers to exercise caution around vehicles and emphasised the importance of routinely checking them for children’s safety.

“This is an unimaginable loss,” she said. “We urge everyone in the community to always double-check vehicles to prevent similar incidents.”

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, while the Soroti community gathers in support of the bereaved family. The children’s bodies remain at the hospital mortuary as the community mourns.
