Residents of Nakawa division in Kampala have decried the increase in crime rates, where rogues armed with machetes and iron bars have left some residents dead and others critically injured.

The criminals have also robbed residents’ properties worth millions of shillings. The locals accuse security forces of not patrolling villages, leaving the criminals to thrive.

Keno Musanyusa one of the victims still has fresh wounds, having been attacked by armed gangs on his way from his music studio. The gospel artiste survived narrowly.

Besides Musanyusa, many other residents are worried about the increasing trend of crime in the area, yet police and the army are on constant patrol.

Many are wondering what could have gone wrong.

Nakawa division mayor Eng. Robert Balimwezo said he too has had a fair share of the criminal gangs and he has survived several attempts on his life.

The police told us that they are trying to apprehend the criminals and asked people to be patient.

Yet with the high unemployment levels and the cost of living becoming a challenge for many urban youths, many locals and leaders are worried that if nothing is done to burst the criminal gangs, they will rule Kampala suburbs.
