Analysts in Kagadi advise politicians in Bunyoro to associate with both NRM and PLU

Political scholars and analysts in Kagadi district have advised people intending to contest  and those in parliament to be careful with how they play their card especially with the current environment of NRM and PLU factor. Noting is better off associating with both, compared to choosing one side you end up being disappointed.

Dr Mwalimu Musheshe, comments  as it stands, until 2025 when the president makes an announcement on whether he is standing or not, candidates have to limit their statements and watch the space.

Kagadi district was created in 2016 being curved out of the greater Kibaale. This  has since then being voting National resistance movement political party right from local council one to members of parliament subsequently the president even when the district then Buyaga constituency was still under greater Kibaale.

While over time, there is been emergency of opposition political parties like Forum for democratic change, Democratic party, National Unity platform, none has ever penetrated the district to win not even a single councillor seat in council.

But with the coming of the PLU civic group under the chairmanship of general Muhoozi Kainerugaba ,the chief of defence forces, it is gaining popularity especially among the youth with a number of candidates already declaring to stand on NRM PLU front should it not be registered as a political party.

Musheshe cautions any person including those in parliament to be careful with how they play their cards on PLU and NRM environment.

“With the current environment, people are confused where to belong, not certain if president Museveni will stand, but also the appointment of Muhoozi has a hidden information, so the better way for anyone intending to stand is better off associating with both PLU and NRM since they are not a threat to each than belonging to one and openly fight the other” Musheshe advised

Musheshe notes, Museveni’s silence has put many into a hard situation to find where to belong, and that will only be solved in 2025 when he either declares to stand or not to stand.

“When you see him appointing his son as CDF, then there is a pressure group PLU chaired by the same person, with one of their key goals advocating for patriotism then people to be careful, he is a very wise man but the answers will only be clear in 2025, but as it stands belong to both since they are not threat but also when the group is speaking, they don’t say they are substitutes rather stand by generator” Musheshe added

“The PLU group has now made it hard for NUP now a leading opposition party to gain ground in Bunyoro because 0f their strong group were the youths  rather than Bunyoro” he noted

The scholar adds, President Museveni threats are not opposition but the military question which he has to address against the agitating youth who think it’s time for the old guards to handover power to them.

“I believe his delay in power and the threats have never been opposition but the military questions, which has to settle himself and then the military ” he noted

While the tension is high especially for political candidates who do not support Muhoozi PLU civic group like Barnabas Tinkasimire the Buyaga west member of Parliament, James Byarugaba the Kagadi PLU coordinator says, there won’t be anytime when Muhoozi will stand against his father, rather the positioning of Muhoozi aims at having a peaceful transition so that Uganda doesn’t go into a political turmoil.

“We are NRM, but we believe in the ideology of Muhoozi and we have trust he is the only suitable candidate to takeover Uganda, and clean up the corruption, poor service delivery, but importantly we don’t want to be caught unaware, we have to have an option in case of anything a stand by generator is available” Byarugaba said.

Barnabas Tinkasimire the Buyaga west member of parliament has warned president Museveni that while they have accommodated him for this long, his thinking of bringing a son for president will not work.

“I used to be a hardliner on president Museveni promises my people in Bunyoro and Buyaga west, but now he has aged so i go slow, because anytime he has to go, and some how you may push and you are accused for making die of pressure, we are patient for the remaining time, but he should know Uganda is not a kingdom or family that he has to bring his son for president, we are waiting let he dare he will see” Tinkasimire said
