Mao defends DP-NRM pact as he outlines plans for 2026 polls
Democratic Party (DP) President Nobert Mao has sharply criticized his detractors over the implementation of the DP-NRM cooperation agreement, which was signed two years ago but has seen limited progress.
Mao argues that critics should direct their demands towards President Yoweri Museveni, with whom the agreement was made, rather than focusing on him.

“The pressure should be directed towards President Museveni, who is also responsible for fulfilling the terms of the agreement,” Mao asserted.
The agreement, nearing its two-year mark, has yet to see substantial achievement of its objectives, prompting growing scrutiny.
Mao also took aim at recent anti-corruption protests, advising activists to address systemic corruption rather than just its visible symptoms.
“We need to focus on fighting systemic corruption, not just its symptoms,” he said.
Furthermore, Mao called for the establishment of an independent oversight committee to hold Parliament accountable.
He warned that without such a committee, Parliament would remain ensnared in transitional issues and corruption.
In a move to quell speculation about his future, Mao confirmed his intention to run for president in the 2026 elections.
“I am standing for president in 2026,” he declared, countering those who have called for his removal from office and from the DP.
Looking ahead, the Democratic Party plans to expand its reach with the launch of 16 new offices across Uganda.
The party is also gearing up for a series of rallies in preparation for the upcoming elections.
