The incumbent Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, has lashed out at his critics who accuse him of engaging in the endless fights and failure to deliver services to the people of Kampala.
Lukwago made the remarks shortly after his nomination to run for another term on the FDC ticket, amidst scuffles, teargas, and running battles with police.
"The issue of building a vibrant and functional institution that is capable of delivering quality services and in line with the vision and mission of KCCA is what has brought me back," he said.
Lukwago is seeking a third term for the office of Kampala Lord Mayor.
According to Lukwago, Kampala is the battlefield that has been captured by the mafia who want to grab people's property which he said he won't tolerate if re-elected.
"You see what is happening in Nakivubo Stadium. I shed tears when I see our facilities being taken away by individuals. Park Yard was also taken.So I remain the shield for the people of Kampala. I remain the shield for the people of Uganda to guard their property jealously," said Lukwago.
Police engaged in running battles with Lukwago's supporters who had accompanied him to the Electoral Commission offices for nominations.
The supporters turned rowdy after police blocked the road with metallic barricades to stop the huge numbers of people he had come with from accessing the venue but the crowds became chaotic.
Lukwago castigated police for highhandedness and selective application of the law.
