Government has urged continuing students to take the revamped home schooling program seriously as this could be used in determining their promotion to the next class in 2021.
President Yoweri Museveni last week announced that students in final year classes at all levels will be resuming school on October 15, 2020 while those in continuing classes were urged to stay home.
The Ministry of Education while issuing new guidelines on the school resumption reasserted that there will not be a dead year for all students as those in continuing classes will be learning from home.
Minister for ICT and National Guidance Judith Nabakooba on Monday urged the continuing students to take this seriously as it could be used in determining their promotion.
Nabakooba said that, "In a special way, I want to call upon those continuing students in other classes to take home schooling seriously. Remember there will be no dead year,"
Nabakooba added that as the finalists return on October 15th, 2020, those at home will embark on their second term too, while at term and this will run until December.
"The third term will be January to April and then children will be assessed and promoted," Nabakooba said.
She urged parents to provide the necessary support for children to learn from home and to the finalists to have a safe resumption of the school program.
According to the Ministry of Education permanent secretary Alex Kakooza, the ministry will assess if it is possible for continuing students to return to school in November and if not, results from home schooling will be considered for promotion.
The home schooling program however remains one of those areas that are still scanty as government failed on its promise to buy radios for each household.
Lessons have however appeared on the national broadcaster, UBC TV, NBS TV among others but not every child has access to a TV set in the country.
