NUP to vet over 605 candidates ahead of the general polls

The National Unity Platform is going to vet over 605 candidates who will be participating in the forthcoming elections,an official said on Wednesday.

The party yesterday started the vetting process and it's expected to last two weeks.

According to Jeremiah Mwanje, the secretary of the party's elections management committee, the vetting process began with applicants from greater Mubende which include districts such as Kasanda ,Mityana among others.

Among those who were vetted by the party electoral committee, include Kasanda North MP Patrick Nsamba and Flavia Nabagabe the woman MP aspirant for Kasanda district among others.

"We are also looking at the campaign infrastructure, a person having a task team to carry out campaigns and identification with the voters"he said.

He said the district chairpersons and city mayors are all going to be vetted at the party headquarters and the rest of the candidates at the district level.

One of the vetted candidates, Patrick Nsamba, said that he was very happy to be vetted noting that the remaining work is for the voters to trust him.

"I would like to tell the people of Kasanda North that I have been successfully vetted and I am coming to seek your mandate. I am the right person to represent you in parliament come 2021,"he said.

Flavia Nabagabe, Woman MP aspirant for Kasanda said she wants to improve the health care system in the area especially for women.

"There are many girls who are dropping out due to teenage pregnancies. This is because many people in Kasanda don't value education,"she said.
