The vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, has said that the national budget is premised on industrialisation and skilling Ugandans especially the youth to create jobs in the production and service sectors.
While presiding over the 7th visionaries of Uganda Awards ceremony at the Serena Kampala, Ssekandi said that leaders must share their vision with the people right from the households to provide solutions to their various challenges.
The 7th Visionaries of Uganda Awards have been running under the theme celebrating dynamic leadership and strengthening the fundamentals of the economy to achieve the Ugandan vision 2040.
Ssekandi said that the country’s national goal is graduating all citizen to a middle class income status and this needs visionary leaders like President Museveni whose main focus is helping eradicate poverty in the country.
He said that recognition and giving awards to people both in public and private sector inspires and spurs them to think more and work harder and is also a thank you gesture in gratitude to their activities.
He commended the spectrum of the awards outreach that has been extended to personalities, companies NGOs and government agencies.
The minister of public Service Muruli Mukasa said that government recognises and appreciates pace setters for development in the country especially manufacturers who are doing value addition.
Prof Enos Kiremere from National Planning Authority said Uganda is resting comfortably on development mattresses which are oil and petroleum, minerals and developing road infrastructure.
He said the serious challenge for the country is corruption.
He however underscore that nations and people are challenged in order to develop if they don’t give up citing the inventor present day light bulb who tried 1000 times before perfecting his invention and is now celebrated for giving light to the world.
