The Muslim leaders in Nakawa division have been urged to the take the path of development through the Nakawa Division Imam’s Development Association (NDIDA) as one way of fighting poverty in the community.
The call was made during a one-day retreat that was held at Nakawa division in Kampala suburb over the weekend.
Kawempe North MP, Latif Ssebagala, urged all the Muslim leaders across the country to encourage their followers to embrace all kinds of development programmes in their areas.
“I am telling the imams of Kampala to ensure that they engaged in all development activities. I am very grateful to the wealth creation because I have given some support to the imams of Kampala but that is not enough,” he said.
He appealed to the Muslims leaders to inject more money in their SACCOs as one way of empowering imams and their subjects to participate in various activities that can improve on their welfare.
The mayor of Nakawa division Ronald Balimwezo, said the creation of Islamic banking in Uganda is one of the ways that can help Muslim leaders through facilities like banks.
Brig. David Wakalo from Operation Wealth Creation led his team to this retreat with much emphasis on integrating agriculture into the gospel.
Nakawa Resident City Commissioner Robert Anderson Burora pledged to lobby for more support for these associations from government.
“The president has been at the fore front of urging people to come together for the purposes of development so people are now listening and taking it seriously," he said.
