Uganda's City Oilers have stopped Nigeria's Kano Pillars 95-86 to advance to the FIBA African Champions Cup quarter finals.
The Oilers who also stopped Democratic Republic of Congo's New Generation on Friday had a bad start at the tournament when they lost their first three games.
In a do-or-die game played today at the Rades city Arena, the Oilers took charge of three quarters to realize a win.
The Oilers led the first quarter 26-24, the second quarter 28-24 before the Kano Pillars took the third quarter 26-21. A great fourth quarter saw the Oilers lead 20-12, a lead that propelled them to a final 95-86 win.
Oilers Robinson Odoch Opong scored 21 points, while LIeon Tillman made 15 points. For the Kano Pillars side Abubakar Usman made 27 points while Abdul Yahaya made 16 points.
The Oilers now proceed for a tough knockout quarter finals where they are likely to face Group B leaders Union Sportive Monastir of Tunisia.
The quarters will be played on a knockout basis, while the losers will play in the classification games for places 5-8.
