The Mufti of Uganda Sheik Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje has cautioned all sheikhs in the country against misguiding and dividing Muslims by giving them wrong information regarding Islamic issues.
He made the remarks while leading Muslims into Eid al Adhuha prayers at Old Kampala Mosque.
"That is lack of knowledge and understanding of Islamic guidance..in future we shall summon those sheikhs to come and face the Islamic scholars in this country so that they defend their positions and pronouncements," he said.
Mubajje who was very bitter made a comment shortly after some sheikhs in the country were reportedly heard making pronouncements (Fatuwa) in Islam without full knowledge regarding the issues.
Some of the issues include fasting on Saturday and Sunday which he said was a wrong move.
“I call upon those sheikhs who are trying to carry out pronouncements (Fatuwa) in Islamic matters, first to consult before they inform the public, “he said.
“There are those who are trying to discourage our brothers and sisters from fasting. We are not going to allow people to be misguided. Those who think they know because they have few verses or few sayings and practices of Prophet Muhammad (Hadith) in their knowledge should stay warned," he said.
He urged the Muslim fraternity to remain united and to be exemplary to others noting that Islam is the religion of peace, love, and unity.
"Let us support unity, peace and togetherness and forgiveness, lets support the Uganda National Dialogue process which has been initiated by the Inter Religious council of Uganda so us to live in peace in our country," he said.
He encouraged Muslims to support all the programmes which aim at promoting peace and unity.
