Gen Mugisha Muntu’s new political party, Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has started a process that will see it establish structures throughout the country.
In a communication to members by the party’s coordinator in charge of electoral affairs, Dan Mugarura a number of guidelines have been issued for get interim committees for district and lower administrative units.
Quoting the party’s constitution, Mugarura says the different coordination committees will be running the party and shall have powers to appoint anyone to carry forward the party’s activities.
Districts
According to the communication, districts will each have a coordinator, deputy coordinator, secretary, coordinator in charge of women affairs, coordinator in charge of youth affairs and the mobilization coordinator who will act as the spokesperson.
The district will also have a treasurer, coordinator in charge of people with disabilities and constituency coordinator.
Functions
The district coordination committees according to the party’s electoral commission boss will be mandated to market and promote the party, its ideas and ideology to the population.
“They should be able to mobilise and recruit members into the party, fundraise the party, identify pilot areas for implementation of party activities,” Mugarura says in the communication.
The party coordination committees will also be required to establish structures of the party.
In September 2018 Gen Muntu quit Uganda's biggest opposition party, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) over what he termed as irreconcilable differences between him and party leaders.
He later formed the Alliance for National Transformation party which was registered by the Electoral Commission on April 25, 2019.
