The titular head of Muslims in Uganda Prince Kassim Nakibinge has appealed to the security agencies to intensify their intelligence so that criminals are apprehended before crime is committed.
“If you arrest these criminals after they have murdered a good number of people, then that cannot help. Lives lost cannot be reversed. Intensify your intelligence however, we thank you for the good work," he noted.
He made the statements during the commemoration of the 124th anniversary of the return of Prince Nuuhu Mbogo Kyabasinga from exile. Mbogo was Nakinbinge's grandfather who is credited for the spearheading the spread of Islam in Uganda.
The ceremony took place at his home in Kibuli on Sunday.
He urged police not to hide the faces of the criminals arrested noting that it will help to increase public confidence and trust.
“But those criminals should be taken to the court as soon as possible that’s the only way justice can be attained," he noted.
On the issue of Islamic banking, he applauded Bank of Uganda and minister of Finance for considering the matter.
“We were here during Idd celebrations these sheikhs like Muzaata were bitter about those who wanted to interfere with operationalisation of Islamic banking. So I would like to thank the minister of Finance and Bank of Uganda for confirming to us that there is no problem with islamic banking," he said.
He said that in a discussion he had with deputy governor, Dr Louis Kasekende, he confirmed and assured him that so far three banks have requested for licences for Islamic banking.
Nakibinge noted that journalists have been writing bad things about Bank of Uganda, at least this time there is something good that has been done by the bank.
