Primary Seven leavers in Dolwe island in Namayingo district abandon education and run to fishing due to lack of secondary schools in the area.
Dolwe Island is located far away from the mainland and it costs between 15,000 to 20,000 in transport fees when one uses a boat.
The island is an independent sub-county with 11 villages and has five government primary schools but no secondary school.
Moses Omond,i one of the victims of the circumstances, said he completed P 7 last year but failed to access secondary school hence ending up in fishing.
He appealed to government to establish a secondary school in the area such he and other puplis who complete P.7 access secondary school studies.
The lack of the secondary school on the island psychologically tortures pupils who are yet to complete P.7 in different primary schools.
In some of the primary schools we visited, the pupils expressed fear that they will not go further than primary education.
Some of the parents at the landing sites said that only pupils of the rich have chances to join secondary schools because they're taken to boarding secondary schools on the main land .
The MP for the area George Oma Abott said that they petitioned ministry of Education over the lack of a secondary school at both the island and in Bukana sub county but in vain.
