Police in Lugazi has arrested the bodyguard to Buvuma District Woman MP Janepher Egunyu Nantume, the Nile Post has learnt.
Martin Beema, a police guard attached to the VIP unit last month shot dead Sadiq Kizito, the ruling NRM party chairman for Kiziba Village following a scuffle in which locals tried to stop the legislator from addressing them.
The two were later summoned to the Criminal Investigations Division in Kibuli to record statements.
However, a source privy to the matter has intimated to this website that Beema has been arrested over the same.
“The bodyguard to Hon.Nantume who shot dead a person has been arrested and is now at Lugazi police custody,” a source told the Nile Post.
However, when contacted for a comment, the area police spokesperson, Hellen Butoto denied the reports saying she is not aware.
According to an eye witness who requested to remain anonymous , the legislator had set up a meeting to talk to locals at Kiziba landing site but the residents stopped her from addressing them prompting Kizito to intercept the MP’s team.
The NRM chairman later tried to grab a megaphone from the legislator, prompting her bodyguard to shoot him in the mouth and died instantly.
